People looking to invest in CDs would like to determine how to select a CD term, which would provide good earnings for their money. A CD’s low risk qualities appeal too many wishing to have a safe investment, even as the interest rate may not be as high as stock options.

If a large sum of money is available for investing and a maximum return is desired in a short period of time, look into buying a jumbo CD. These CDs typically have a lower interest rate but a shorter term, some as low as 30 days. If, on the other hand, you have a smaller investment but you time to let it grow, check into a 1-year CD option or greater, to maximize growth.

CDs with 1 year term may offer significantly higher growth than 3 to 6 month alternatives. Also, look at CDs that are available through brokers. But while you generally get the best rates if you go with a broker, not all CDs will be FDIC-insured.

Depending on the difference in yield, you may decide if it is worth taking a chance on an uninsured CD account. The broker also has a fee that reduces your return.

Find out if the CDs you are considering have call features. Some banks can terminate (call) high rate CDs before their maturity dates if interest rates change and they feel it’s in their best interest. While you will get your principal and interest up to that point, it can be a hassle to have to make another investing decision.

Remember that money invested in CDs is subject to early withdrawal penalties. Banks are borrowing your money to invest it for the designated term. They will make you pay the price if you pull it out early. Read the term agreement carefully.

Though some CDs sound like great deals, they may require a large minimum deposit. If you are looking to invest only $500 to $1000, your options will be limited. There are several reliable sites online you can visit for a breakdown of minimum deposit guidelines, CD rates and APYs, and bank providers.

Before you buy a CD, it is best to do some research first. Most savvy investors know how to select a CD term with the best rate for their financial situation.

The Sallie Mae CD rates, best 3 Year CD Rates is currently at 2.30% APY. This is the rate that every deposit receives regardless of its size. The Sallie Mae financial institution has made it this way so no matter how large or small your deposit is, it can earn a decent rate. This helps many people out who do not have much of an income but still wish to do what they can to save money and look towards the future.

This is not the only CD Rates available from Sallie Mae. They also offer a 12 month CD that brings back a return of 1.55% APY. The 60 month CD has the highest rate of return at 3.00% APY. Both of these are just like the 3 year or 36 month CD has no minimum deposit requirement so investors can place what they want on deposit and still earn a return.

All of these CD’s also offer the fact that there are no hidden charges that can reduce the return of the depositor’s investment. There is a penalty for early withdraw of the deposit. This can only occur if the depositors desire it, but the charge could be all of the interest that has already been accumulated by the investment. This is dependent on when the early withdraw occurs in relationship to the term of the CD.

The APY’s stated on above were posted on the Sallie Mae website on August 16, 2010 and were still accurate as of August 31, 2010.

The current Sallie Mae CD rates, best 3 Year CD Rates is at 2.30% APY.

From a bank that attempts to attract savers, the Ally Bank rate review shows its transparent products, such as its certificates of deposit, having very competitive rates. Being an internet bank, you manage your bank account online, by phone, or by ATM. In this site, we will be looking at their current rates for the different CDs Ally Bank offers.

The High Yield CDs are fixed rate CDs with high yields ranging in terms from 3 months to 5 year terms. Some of Ally Bank’s High Yield CD rates are as follows. The 6 months CD has an interest rate of 1.13% with an APY of 1.14%. The 12 months CD has an interest rate of 1.43% with an APY of 1.44%. The 3 years CD has an interest rate of 2.15% with an APY of 2.17%. The 5 years CD has an interest rate of 2.70% with an APY of 2.74%.

Ally Bank’s Raise Your Rate CD is a 2 year high interest rate CD that gives you the flexibility to call for a one-time rate increase if the rates go up during the term. It has an interest rate of 1.78% with an APY of 1.80%.

The No Penalty CD is an 11 months term CD that gives you a great rate and the ability to withdraw your entire balance, including all interest earned, without a fee. It has an interest rate of 1.31% with an APY of 1.32%.

Customers can open any of these CDs with $0 and they do not have monthly fees. However, a fee will be charged to you if you make a withdrawal before the CD matures. Interest is compounded daily for maximum earnings but you need to have money in your account to earn the APYs.

These CD rates were posted August 27, 2010 and are still current and effective August 30, 2010.

Ally Bank rate review shows that since Ally Bank is a direct bank, the savings they make from not having to pay for operating costs allow them to direct that savings toward better rates for their customers to enjoy.

The Fidelity CD rates are competitive especially for rates on maturities of 2 years and up. Fidelity offers both new issue and secondary CDs. New issue CDs are sourced from the issuer while secondary CDs are sourced from a number of dealers Fidelity accesses through its Open Bond Market.

Brokered CDs are securities offered by commercial banks and thrifts to raise funds for their business activities. Investors lock in the market interest rate at the time of purchase, which is usually fixed for the term of the CD. There is no limit in the denomination of a CD.

At Fidelity, all new issue CDs are available without a separate transaction fee and are FDIC-insured. The secondary CDs Fidelity offers come from multiple sources, providing investors with a single location to view brokered CDs from many banks. Brokered CDs have some important advantages over bank CDs including the ability to avoid penalties if the CD is sold before maturity.

Currently, some CDs that can be found with Fidelity have an APY of 0.25% for a 1 year CD. There is an APY of 1.00% for a 2 year CD. There is an APY of 2.00% for a 5 year CD. There is an APY of 2.90% for a 10 year CD. There is an APY of 3.10% for a 15 year CD. These CD rates were posted August 8, 2010 and are still current and effective August 25, 2010.

For more details on the Fidelity CD rates, please visit their website to view current and complete listings on their brokered CDs.

For over a year the trend of Certificate of Deposit rates keep falling has become disheartening to many Americans. This is all due to the monetary policy set forth by the previous and present administrations. In principal this strategy of low interest rates for loans would make it more attractive for people and business to borrow money. The problem is the financial institutions that hold the money are refusing loans at a record rate.

These same financial institutions are the reason the world is now entering a double dip recession. When they needed help during the start of the recession they received a tax payer bailout. The money was intended to be loaned out to avoid a long drawn out recession, which has now occurred.

The banks reasoning for not approving loans are because of the mistakes they made in the past. By loaning to people they knew could not pay back the amounts they were borrowing, now they do not want to repeat the same mistakes.

In reality these same financial institutions took the bail out money and paid their executives huge bonuses for ruining the world’s economy. That is where the money they were supposed to loan out went.

In the first and second quarters of the year 2010 these same financial institutions are seeing great profits while the rest of the economy is in stagnation. This was done by raising fees and installing new fees on the basic services people needed from them.

The present CD Rates are at near record lows so where are all the profits going. Still into the pockets of just a few upper management members of the large financial firms that are still refusing to give out loans.

The corporate greed that runs the large financial firms is in place and will remain until they are dissolved. Until then expect the Certificate of Deposit rates keep falling.

Greed has become the American way now as evident by the administrations unwillingness to stop the corporate banking system from destroying the American way of life. This is just an American’s opinion that has already lost his home because of circumstances out of his control.
