Currently, the best CD rates are at GMAC Bank (Utah), which has a 1-year annual percentage yield (APY) of 2.85% with a $500 minimum deposit. Their best CD rates are on 3-year terms, however, giving an APY of 3.25% with the same deposit minimum.
Another of the highest yield CD rates for a 1-year term is from Corus Bank (Ill.), delivering a 2.81% APY with a $10,000 deposit. UmbrellaBank.com (Alabama) has a 2.75% APY for the same term with only a $1,000 deposit requirement.
Going back to high yield CD 3-year terms, we find that Intervest National Bank (New York) has a 3.15% APY with a $2,500 minimum deposit and the State Bank of India (New York) has a similar 3.14% APY for their 3-year best CD rates at a $5,000 minimum.
There are a lot of choices to make, whether you prefer a shorter 1-year term or a longer 3-year, but in either case, for the highest yield CD rates, it looks like GMAC is currently the best choice.
If you’re in the market for an even shorter-term, however, Corus Bank has a 2.32% APY return on a 6-month CD with a $10,000 deposit, but for only $1,000 minimum, you can get 2.30% at UmbrellaBank.com as well.
