Check out internet CD rates if you are thinking of investing some money in certificates of deposit. Most mortar and brick banks have online banking and their internet rates can sometimes be different. Conversely, you can also find decent, and oftentimes better, rates from internet-only banks since they have lower overheads, which translates to higher rates for their customers. Here are some of them.

The First Internet Bank of Indiana requires a minimum deposit of $1000 to open. The rates apply to all balance levels. Their 12 months CD has an interest rate of 1.00% with an APY of 1.00%. Their 24 months CD has an interest rate of 1.59% with an APY of 1.60%. Their 36 months CD has an interest rate of 2.13% with an APY of 2.15%. Their 48 months CD has an interest rate of 2.47% with an APY of 2.50%. Their 60 months CD has an interest rate of 2.91% with an APY of 2.95%. These rates were posted 3/5/2010 and are still current and effective 4/8/2010.

Ally Bank’s CDs have no minimum deposit. Their 12 months CD has an interest rate of 1.49% with an APY of 1.50%. Their 18 months CD has an interest rate of 1.64% with an APY of 1.65%. Their 3 years CD has an interest rate of 2.31% with an APY of 2.34%. Their 4 years CD has an interest rate of 2.61% with an APY of 2.64%. Their 5 years CD has an interest rate of 2.95% with an APY of 2.99%. These rates were posted 4/6/2010 and are still current and effective 4/8/2010.
