The best 6 Month CD Rates 2011 have changed since January with many financial institutions going both down and up on the rates they have to offer.

The best available CD Rates for a 6 month term is from the Route One Credit Union in Paris, Illinois. This is advertised as a 6 month CD on many sites, but the home site of this CU only has one APY of 1.77% for any CD from 3 months to 1 year. There is no stated minimum deposit and the rate was posted on November 6, 2009.

There are two credit unions that are currently offering an APY of 1.51% on a 6 month CD. One of them is the BCBSNC Credit union from Durham, North Carolina. This is on deposits over $10,000. For deposits under $10,000 the APY is 1.26%. These rates were posted on February 1, 2011.

The second CU is SUMA Federal Credit Union from Yonkers, New York. Their 6 month CD that is earning an APY of 1.51% only requires a minimum deposit of $1,000. This rate was posted on November 19, 2010.

Allegany County Teachers Federal Credit Union in Lavale, Maryland has a 6 month CD that is currently earning an APY of 1.41%. This requires a minimum deposit of $500 and the rate was posted on February 1, 2011.

The Exchange Bank from Oklahoma is offering a tiered format for their 6 month CD. This tiered format includes minimum deposits of $1,000, $25,000 and $100,000. The APYs are 1.15%, 1.26% and 1.36% respectively. These CD rates were posted on February 2, 2011.

Today, we’re going to look at 6 month CD rates nationally and show you the best ones. Yesterday, here at Best CD Rates Today, we showed you Wachovia CD rates and today we’re going national.

There are a lot of great six month CD rates around right now. The best annual percentage yield (APY) for the best 6 month CD rates is at Ascencia (PBI Bank) in Kentucky, with a 1.76% APY and a $500 minimum deposit requirement.

UFBDirect.com has a 1.75% APY but requires a $8,000 minimum deposit while First Century Bank (Georgia) as a $10,000 minimum deposit requirement with the same APY.

The next best 6 month CD rates are at State Bank of India (New York) with a 1.71% APY and a $5,000 minimum deposit requirement, followed by New Dominion Direct with a 1.67% APY and a $3,000 minimum deposit requirement.

Soon after that, six month CD rates at Ally Bank are 1.65% APY with no deposit minimum and E-Loan (California) with the same APY, but requiring a $10,000 minimum deposit.

6 month CD rates at Nexity Bank (Alabama) are 1.61% APY with a $1,000 minimum deposit. OneWest Bank (California) has a 1.60% APY as does Corus Bank (Illinois), with a $5,000 and $10,000 minimum deposit requirement respectively.

There are a lot of place to turn to get the best 6 month CD rates, depending on what you prefer in a bank and whether you absolutely must have the best rates. Luckily, that top offer from Ascencia requires only $500, so minimum deposit isn’t a restriction this time. That’s an unusual opportunity.

We here at Best CD Rates Today had several queries about how the six month CD rates are right now. One person asked about offers at Wachovia, so we thought we’d cover that first. In our next installment, we’ll look at the best 6 month CD rates available nationally.

Wachovia 6 month CD accounts are giving a 0.45% annual percentage yield (APY) right now on all deposit levels, with the minimum deposit being $1,000. You can raise that rate to 0.55% APY if you’re willing to ad another 3 months to your term (making it 9).

The Wachovia rates really don’t get too interesting until you get up to the specials, which are at 13, 21, and 32 months. These require an auto-renewal for a like term at standard rates, however, so they aren’t very good short-term options (13 months becomes 2 years, for instance). Those specials also require a $5,000 minimum deposit.

If you have a minimum balance of $2,500 and are willing to take the risk of a variable rate changing, Wachovia CD rates can be beat by going with a money market at a current 0.75% APY right now. Again, this doesn’t include a guaranteed, locked rate like a Wachovia CD rates, but might be worth considering.

The Wachovia 6 month CD rates and Wachovia rates on money market are very good compared to the variable rate savings at 0.05% APY right now, as a comparison.
