The Flagstar 1 Year CD rates are currently at 1.55% APY. This is for the 12 month term CD that was opened online. The minimum amount of deposit required to obtain this APY is $500. The rates were posted on July 20, 2010 and are subject to change without notice.

There are two other 12 month CDs offered by Flagstar. The first is the Smart Choice 12 month Fixed CD. This CD can be obtained through any of the Flagstar branch offices. The APY for this CD has a fixed APY rate of 1.50%.The minimum deposit for this CD is $500. This rate was also posted on July 20, 2010 and is subject to change without notice.

The last of the 12 month CDs is the Smart Choice 12 month Variable. This has a variable rate of 1.35% APY. This CD rates was posted on July 20, 2010 and the minimum deposit required to obtain the posted APY is $500.

All of the deposits with these CD rates are insured by the FDIC up to $250,000. To find these rates, the Flagstar website does require a zip code. But with each zip code entered, the same rates appeared. This leads one to believe these are the national rates available in most areas of the country.

The headquarters of Flagstar is in Troy, Michigan. They received their federal charter in 1987 and have 165 branch offices in Michigan, Indiana, and Georgia.

The Flagstar 1 Year CD rates offered via the internet at 1.55% APY is currently the best 1 year CD rate in the nation for the week of July 19 2010.

The best CD rates, week of July 12, 2010 from a bank for a 1 year or 12 month CD was at an APY of 1.55%. There were three financial institutions across the nation that made this offer. The first one is Salle Mae. They offer a 12 month CD with an APY of 1.55% with no minimum deposit, no fees, and no hidden charges. The rates were posted on July 6, 2010 and were still current as of July 19, 2010.
Harris Bank is based in the Chicago area but serves the nation. They had a 12 month CD that was at 1.55% APY last week but effective July 16, 2010 the 12 month CD has been reduced to 0.65% with a minim deposit of $5000.

When looking to Credit Unions, the best CD rates are from Melrose CU and are called Shared Certificates (SC). They have a 1 year SC at 1.76% APY. The 2 year SC is at 2.02%. The 3 year SC is at 2.52%. The 4 year SC is at 2.78% and the 5 year SC is at 3.29% APY. This is with a minimum deposit of $500.
These are the best CD rates, week of July 12, 2010 from financial institutions that post their rates readily on the internet.

Knowing which are the best CDs for retirees is dependent on their plans for the future. At the present time, with the Federal Reserve keeping the interest rates artificially low, investing in CDs for the long term or with long term certificates is not a very wise move. The main reason is that with the long term rates so low, inflation will negate any earnings.

Finding the best CD rates for your hard earned money is tricky. Establishing a CD ladder is the best way to take advantage of any rate change while earning what is presently being offered. This way, there would be a constant flow of CDs maturing at predetermined intervals.

If you are just starting to form a CD ladder, then you would need to purchase a 1, 2, and 3 year CDs. This 3 rung ladder would have a CD maturing every year so access to your money would be readily available without any penalty. When the CD matures, then you can reinvest it in another 3 year CD or spend it. Reinvesting it would keep the ladder going.

This same concept can be done with a 6 month, 1 year, and 18 month CD to have even more access to your funds. This would give the opportunity to invest in a better rate CD as soon as the rates start to increase.

When looking for which institution to invest with, shop around. Many banks and credit unions have good rates, but one generally stands out above the other rates with each financial institution. With a CD ladder, the CDs on each rung can be with a different financial institution. Do not have the mindset to stick to just one bank because you “have always done your banking with them.” If you do so, you could miss out on better earnings through better rates offered by other banking institutions.

Shop around for the best CDs for retirees. It is your money, get the most from it.

Their 12 month CD has an interest rate 1.55% with an APY of 1.56%. The 36 month CD has an interest rate of 2.75% with an APY of 2.78%. The 60 month CD has an interest rate of 3.00% with an APY of 3.03%. Other CD terms and non-premium rates are also available. These rates were posted March 12, 2010 and are still current and effective July 6, 2010.

The 36 month CD has an interest rate of 2.40% with an APY of 2.42%. The 60 months CD has an interest rate 2.90% with an APY of 2.93%.

The Missouri CD rates from the local banks are there to help those in their community to save as much as they can, in the smallest amount of time. Some financial institutions are now offering great rates on short term CDs only while not so good rates on the longer term. This is because more people are hoping the FED will finally come to their senses and start to allow the interest rate to rise.

An example of this is with Branson Bank. They are a state chartered bank owned and operated by Missourians who opened their doors in 2000. The 90 day CD has an APY of 1.26%. The 6 month CD has an APY of 1.51%. The 12 month CD has an APY of 1.71%. The 18 month CD has an APY of 1.86%. The 2 year CD has an APY of 2.02%. The 3 year CD has an APY of 2.27%, and the 5 year CD has an APY of 2.52%. These CDs require a minimum deposit of $1000. The rates were posted on January 8, 2010, and were still current as of July 2, 2010.

The CD Rates from the First Midwest Bank of Popular Bluff are better all round than others that specialize in a certain term area. Their 3 month CD has an APY of 1.00%. The 6 month CD has an APY of 1.41%. The 1 year CD has an APY of 1.66%. The 2 year CD has an APY of 1.91%. The 3 year CD has an APY of 2.37%. The 4 year CD has an APY of 2.62%, and the 5 year CD has an APY of 3.29%. Each of these CDs requires a minimum deposit of $1000 to open an account. These rates were posted on July 2, 2010.

These are two of the better Missouri CD rates offered by local financial institutions. For additional resources about CDs on this website about another state, please view Best Rhode Island CD Rates.
