Wachovia 6 month CD accounts are giving a 0.45% annual percentage yield (APY) right now on all deposit levels, with the minimum deposit being $1,000. You can raise that rate to 0.55% APY if you’re willing to ad another 3 months to your term (making it 9).

The Wachovia rates really don’t get too interesting until you get up to the specials, which are at 13, 21, and 32 months. These require an auto-renewal for a like term at standard rates, however, so they aren’t very good short-term options (13 months becomes 2 years, for instance). Those specials also require a $5,000 minimum deposit.

If you have a minimum balance of $2,500 and are willing to take the risk of a variable rate changing, Wachovia CD rates can be beat by going with a money market at a current 0.75% APY right now. Again, this doesn’t include a guaranteed, locked rate like a Wachovia CD rates, but might be worth considering.
